# Step text & buttons

## Format text

Click a step's text to edit it. Changes save automatically.

| Shortcut | Format |
| --- | --- |
| `Ctrl/Cmd + B` | Bold |
| `Ctrl/Cmd + I` | Italic |
| `Ctrl/Cmd + U` | Underline |
| `Ctrl/Cmd` + backtick | Inline code |

## Personalize

Type a variable such as `{{ company }}` in any step or popup text. It's replaced per viewer. See [Variables](https://livedemo.ai/docs/edit-a-livedemo/variables/).

## Buttons and footer

In the step settings:

- **Next Button text**: rename **Next**, for example to "Show me" or "Continue".
- **Hide back button**: useful on the first step.
- **Show footer**: turn off for a clean tooltip with text only.
- **Show step number**: shows progress.

## Write copy that works

- **One idea per step.** One or two short sentences.
- **Say why, not where.** "Invite your team so everyone sees the same pipeline" beats "Click Invite".
- **Use "you".** Talk to the viewer.
- **Start with the benefit** on the first step, and end with a [call to action](https://livedemo.ai/docs/edit-a-livedemo/popup-buttons-and-effects/).
