# How to Change Data Type in Power BI

> To update data types in Power BI, click the visual table and select Transform Data to open the Power Query Editor. Locate the target column in the table preview, click the data type icon in the column header to choose the new type, and then click Close & Apply.

## Steps

1. Click on the visual table.
2. Click 'Transform Data' to open Power Query Editor.
3. In the table preview, find the column whose data type you want to change.
4. Click the small data type icon in the column header. Select the desired data type.
5. After you're done, click 'Close & Apply'.
