# How to Create a Role in Jira

> To create a role in Jira, click the gear icon, select System under Jira settings, and click Project roles under Security. Next, go to Add Project Role, enter a name and description, and click the Add Project Role button at the top of the page.

1. Click on the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
