# How to Find ChatGPT API Key

> To generate an API key on the OpenAI platform, visit the website, open Settings via the gear icon, and navigate to API Keys. Click Create new secret key, enter the Name and Project, click Create secret key, and copy the key immediately.

## Steps

1. Visit the OpenAI platform website at platform.openai.com .
2. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the window to access "Settings."
3. Go to "API Keys."
4. On the API Keys page, click the "Create new secret key" button.
5. Enter the "Name" and "Project" for the new secret key.
6. Select "Create secret key" to proceed.
7. Copy the API key immediately after it is created, as you won’t be able to view it again later​
