# How to Make Something Not a Component in Figma

> To make something not a component in Figma, copy the component, paste a duplicate onto the canvas, select the duplicate, open More Actions in the right-side panel, and click Detach Instance to remove its component status.

## Steps

1. Inside your Figma design canvas, find and choose the component you wish to edit.
2. After that, right-click on the selection and tap 'Copy'.
3. Next, right-click anywhere around the canvas to bring out the options once again.
4. Select 'Paste Here' from the list of options.
5. Click the newly created duplicate afterwards.
6. Subsequently, head over to the right-side panel and tap 'More Actions'.
7. Tap 'Detach Instance' to proceed.
8. After completing these steps, the duplicate object will no longer be a component. You may now delete the main component and use the duplicate object instead.
