1. Open Microsoft Access but do not open the database yet. Select 'Open'.

2. Under the 'Open' category, select 'Browse'.

3. In the 'Open' dialog box, navigate to your database file. Click the drop-down arrow next to the 'Open' button and select 'Open Exclusive'.

4. With the database open in exclusive mode, click 'File'.

5. Click 'Info'.

6. Select 'Encrypt with Password'.

7. Enter a password in the dialog box.

8. Confirm the password by entering it again and click 'OK' to apply the password.

9. Reopen the database to confirm it prompts for the password.
