Go to the Jira Administration section by clicking the gear icon in the upper-right corner.
Select 'Issues' from the dropdown menu.
Under the 'Issue Attributes' menu, select 'Statuses'.
Click 'Add status'.
Name your status and add a description.
Select a category by clicking the drop-down arrow.
Click 'Add' to confirm changes.
That's it! You have successfully added a status category in Jira.
